It’s a sign of change in the automobile world – in Japan, the latest 'Car of the Year' is a hybrid model (the Honda CR-Z) and in the USA too, two leading auto magazines have picked the Chevrolet Volt, also an electric car, as their ‘Car of the Year’.
In Europe, it was announced yesterday that the Nissan Leaf – an electric car – is the 'Car of the Year', voted by a panel of 53 motoring journalists from 23 European countries. Runner-up to the Nissan Leaf was the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, with the Opel Meriva in third place.
Other models from the 40 nominees which were finalists were the Ford C-Max, Citroen C3/DS3, Volvo S60/V60 and the Duster, a SUV made by Dacia in Romania.
