Pioneer DEH car audio

Pioneer’s new DEH range of single CD players for in-car audio systems comes in 8 different models with a built-in MOSFET amplifier for the best reproduction quality. There’s also Advanced Sound Retrieve which is said to restore data to the digital music files that gets lost during digital compression.

Apart from CD or CD-RWs, the DEH models offer connectivity to multimedia devices such as SD memory cards, USB devices and other external media players. There’s a built-in front auxiliary (AUX) input for iPods, iPhones and other portable music players to connect as an audio source, usually via a 3.5-mm jack. The CD player supports mp3 and WMA file formats which are the most popular.

To further improve audio quality, the MOSFET 50W x 4 amplifier decreases audio distortion and reduces power consumption. Catering to audiophiles as well as basic users, the DEH models have full OLED displays (Pioneer calls it OEL display), a 7-way rotary knob, RDS (radio data system), display customisation, a detachable faceplate for security, multi language options, and a music browser.

The top of the line DEH-9350SD comes with an OLED display, a SD Memory Card slot, USB connectivity for iPod/iPhone, 7-way rotary knob and a music browser. Pioneer builds the 9350 with individually-designed parts to ensure higher audio quality, eg having a high-capacity audio capacitor that improves the audio signal input. The music browser automatically lists music files alphabetically and is able to sort the files by Artist, Album, Song or Genre so making your selection is a much more intuitive experience.

The midrange DEH-5350UB fits the user who wants a little more flexibility when enjoying their music. It has a LCD display with colour customisation and has the ability to plug in Apple products or other players via a USB port.

If too much technology is confusing, there’s the basic DEH-1350MP that takes out all the confusing terms and comes with just the fundamentals. It still plays your rewritable-CDs and has an AUX input for your MP3 player so you can take all your favourite songs with you.

Other DEH models are the DEH-8350SD, DEH-6350SD, DEH-5350UB, DEH-3350UB, and DEH-2350UB, each with varying feature sets. Retail prices range from RM988 for the high-end DEH-9350SD to RM358 for the basic DEH-1350 MP. [Loh Ving Sung]
