Michelin auto accessories now in Malaysia

For most people, mention of ‘Michelin’ would immediately bring to mind tyres and for many, the famous ‘Michelin Man’ too. While tyres are indeed the company’s core business, it also offers a range of automotive accessories comprising 23 products in six different categories: wiper blades, foot pumps, car mats, tyre inflators, digital tyre gauges and air fresheners.

According to Michelin Malaysia Sdn Bhd Managing Director Yves Pouliquen, each product has been designed to bring something unique to consumers - either through its concept, design or specification - and to convey Michelin’s renowned brand values, namely quality, safety and performance. 

“Years of experience in tyre technology have given us an understanding of what consumers need, especially when it comes to the automotive industry. That is why we have decided to introduce the Michelin range of automotive accessories to suit consumers’ automotive needs in Malaysia,” said Mr. Pouliquen. 

“Michelin automotive accessories were first introduced in 2001 in other markets and have received a total of 47 awards and accolades, including two of the products which won the prestigious “Produit de l’Année” (Product of the Year) award in France twice. Additionally, many consumer magazines have also rated Michelin automotive accessories with either 5 stars, or as “best-buy” within their categories,” he said.

 

 

The Michelin automotive accessories range is part of a wider collection of lifestyle-related products developed under licence and managed through Michelin Lifestyle Limited (MLL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Michelin Group. The mission of MLL is to increase the awareness and preference for the Michelin brand worldwide, through sales of licensed products, in various categories, which commensurate with the Michelin brand image. 

The Michelin Lifestyle business operates through a licensing model. This entails working closely with licensees, selected for their product and market knowledge and expertise, to develop and market Michelin-branded products under licence. To date, Michelin Lifestyle has around 75 licensing partners worldwide. 

“After 10 years of being introduced in the market worldwide, the Michelin range of automotive accessories has been well accepted by consumers, and we are confident that it will be accepted in the Malaysian market,” said Mr. Pouliquen. 

Some of the notable products being introduced include the Electric Tyre Inflator, a portable tyre pump that can fully inflate a flat tyre in 4 minutes. There’s also a Digital Tyre Gauge which comes in various designs. It has a rubberised soft grip and automatically turns on when inserted onto a tyre valve. The digital read-out naturally gives a precise number in contrast to analogue gauges. Other high-quality accessories are floor mats for the car and replacement wiper blades.

“For now, we are starting with about 23 products in six different ranges, priced between RM16.50 to RM200. We plan to introduce more products in the coming months to cater for consumers’ needs,” added Mr. Pouliquen.
