FAHB subsidiary sells ABT accessories

Federal Auto Holdings Bhd (FAHB), more synonymous with Volvo (but now also involved in sales of Mitsubishi and VW vehicles), has entered the after-market tuning business following its appointment as exclusive distributor for ABT products in Malaysia 6 months ago. ABT Sportsline is a German company said to be the world’s leading tuner of Volkswagen and Audi vehicles. It has an illustrious history in motor racing and a track record spanning five decades.
ABT products offer enhanced performance in six major areas, namely engine power, aerodynamics, exhaust, suspensions, brakes and sports wheels. The company’s famed chip-tuning technology, developed from its long involvement in professional motor racing, is claimed to significantly boost engine power while offering reduced fuel consumption. For the Golf GTi Mk VI, for example, ABT’s upgrade pushes the engine’s maximum power output from the standard 210 bhp to 260 bhp and torque from 280 Nm to 360 Nm.
ABT currently offers a variety of tuning packages for the Golf and Scirocco. Prices range from RM6,636 for engine chip-tuning alone to RM43,610 for a complete set comprising full bodykit, sport springs, rims and tyres.
The ABT business will be handled by FAHB’S subsidiary, Federal Auto Sports Tuning Sdn Bhd (FAST), which has its flagship showroom at Glenmarie, Shah Alam, Selangor. The 12,000 sq ft showroom, built at a cost of more than RM1 million, is the largest of its type in Asia and conforms to ABT’s corporate identity guidelines.
The showroom stocks the latest bodykits and accessories for Audi and Volkswagen cars, especially the latest Golf and Scirocco models. Its spacious interior can accommodate up to 10 units of display cars and has been specifically designed to allow customers to view the ABT-tuned cars and a wide selection of accessories in comfort.
FAST will open another showroom in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, this year (adjacent to its Mitsubishi and VW showrooms) and at least two more, in Penang and Johor Bahru, by the end of 2011.
In addition to strategically located and easily accessible outlets, FAST aims to work closely with other Volkswagen dealers and major accessory shops to offer one-stop convenience to customers seeking to maximise the performance of their vehicles.
According to FAHB’s MD, Cheng Seng Fook, the partnership with a premium brand like ABT was part of the company’s multi-brand strategy and would enable it to tap into the fast growing market for sports tuning and after-market accessories.
“We believe that there is tremendous market potential due to growing consumer affluence and the increasing popularity of the Volkswagen and Audi brands here in Malaysia. We are naturally proud to be recognised by a global brand such as ABT as an exclusive partner,” he said.
With regards to warranty issues, ABT will of course offer its own warranty for its products and FAST is also formulating a solution that will be acceptable to VW and Audi owners in relation to their car’s factory warranty.
