Fall in sales during November

The Total Industry Volume (TIV) of new vehicle sales in Malaysia for the month of November, compiled and released in summary by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) today, was 44,845 units. This was a decrease of 15% compared to the October’s TIV and 1% lower than the same month in 2009.

The TIV for November comprised 39,375 passenger vehicles and 5,4,70 commercial vehicles. The cumulative TIV from January to November amounted to 550,391 units which was 12% higher than for the same period in 2009. Assuming a conservative figure of 40,000 units in December, the TIV for 2010 would finish off just about 10,000 units short of a new record of 600,000 units.

The decrease in sales during November was considered seasonal as consumers start to reconsider whether they want to buy a new vehicle so late in the year, or to wait till the new year. For this reason, many companies are offering special deals to entice buyers to take their new vehicles in December.
