The next Honda Civic

Next month, Honda will provide clues to the design of the ninth generation of the Civic when it unveils the Civic Concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. This sketch is the first official one released which shows that the styling will be eve more aerodynamic, with some elements of the European Type-R incorporated in the front end.

But we won’t have to wait till the Tokyo Motorshow in October or November to see the production model as Honda USA said the new generation Civic will go on sale in the spring of 2011, which means sometime in the first quarter of next year.

While the North American version will give an idea of what the new Civic will look like, don’t count on it being exactly the same when it is introduced in Malaysia, probably in early 2012. Going by the experience with the current generation, there are styling differences between the Malaysian version and the North American one, the differences made to suit the tastes of customers in different regions.

It’ll be hard to determine what the Malaysian version will look like since Honda has announced that they won’t make the Civic for the Japanese market anymore. So it is likely that the first peek at the new Civic would be when Honda launches it in China (which is usually the first market in Asia to get new models, given its importance nowadays).
