Proton Exora off to a good start in Thailand

Going by the number of bookings received, Proton was the sixth most popular brand at the recent Thailand International Motor Expo 2009 in Bangkok. Of the 25,220 bookings received by all the companies which were present, Proton models accounted for 1,388 bookings.
 
Proton's was preceded by more established Japanese makes such as Toyota, Isuzu and Mitsubishi which benefitted more from the sales of their pick-up models. Proton bookings were also higher than all the Korean and continental brands in Thailand, positioning it as one of the strongest selling brands in the Expo within the ranks of the Japanese brands.
 
The Exora, which made its debut in Thailand during the motorshow, was the best-selling Proton model, accounting for 825 bookings (60%). The Savvy was the next most popular model, accounting for 19.5% of the total bookings over the event.

The progress reflects a positive performance in Proton’s export and brand awareness initiatives. "This is only an initial indication that all our export initiatives are showing positive signs of success. We have been, and still are, working very hard in paving our way through our identified export markets, and we are glad that Thai consumers have accepted and recognized us," said Proton Holdings Group MD, Dato' Haji Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir

"As the automotive hub of the Southeast Asia, we are very encouraged by the growth and prospects Thailand has to offer. With it being an important MPV market in the region, we are pleased that the Exora has been well accepted," he added.

Thailand is the Exora's fourth export market after Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei and the fifth Proton model in the country ever since the Malaysian car manufacturer entered the Thai market in 2007. In two years, Proton’s growing sales have put the brand within the top 10 makes in the country.
