Mitsubishi Triton 2.5 Standard

Posted on December 11, 2009 12:00 AM

For those who are considering a pick-up but feel that they do not need all the extras that come with many models in the market and therefore save money, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia offers a lower-priced version of the award-winning Triton - the Triton 2.5 Standard.

Priced at RM 77,715.80 (on-the-road, without insurance), the Triton 2.5 Standard has all the attributes of the other Triton versions, ie bold looks, rugged all-road capability and an extended cargo bed.

The Mitsubishi 2.5-litre Direct Injection Diesel Hyper Common Rail Turbo Intercooler engine has an output of 136 ps at 3500rpm and maximum torque of 314 Nm at 2000 rpm. Only a manual 5-speed transmission is available but buyers still get Mitsubishi’s Easy Select 4WD system which allows the driver to go from 2WD to 4WD without stopping (at speeds of up to 100 km/h).

Despite the lower price, the Triton 2.5 Standard has 16-inch alloy rims and a bedliner to protect the cargo bed surface. It also comes with the informative RV meter on the dashboard, a unique Triton feature that displays travel data such as range, average speed, fuel consumption and there’s also a digital compass, barometer, altimeter and external temperature display.

MMM aims to sell monthly sales of the Triton 2.5 Standard to be around 150 units, the extra volume expected to boost its segment share to 25% next year. This year, at a rate of 400 to 500 units a month, the Triton has had a 17% share of the pick-up segment.

“Already Malaysia’s most awarded pick-up truck, the Triton 2.5 Standard is set to widen the Triton’s appeal, – it is now more affordable yet maintains the Triton appeal and does not compromise on quality, performance and durability. The Triton caters to everyone, from the style conscious to small business users,” said Keizo Ono, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia.

Besides the new Triton 2.5 Standard, the Triton family includes the Triton 3.2-litre 4x4 automatic, Triton 2.5-litre 4x4 with automatic and manual transmissions, and Triton Lite 2.5-litre 4x2 manual. The model has won Autocar ASEAN’s 'Pick-up of the Year' Award three years running since 2006 and the 2008 edition of the Award was awarded to the Triton Lite. In addition, the flagship Triton 3.2 was named 'Pick-up of the Year' in the 2008 NST-Maybank 'Car of the Year Awards.

Fully imported from Thailand, the Triton comes with a 3-year/100 000 km warranty, whichever comes first. Colours available are Cool Silver Metallic and White Solid.

During the month of December 2009, MMM is giving away a 40-inch LCD TV or digital camera with every purchase of selected Mitsubishi models from authorised dealers. Click here to know more about this promotion.
