Dato' Nadzmi Mohd Salleh has been appointed as the new Chairman for Proton Holdings Bhd, effective from January 1 2009. He will take over from outgoing chairman Dato' Mohd Azlan Hashim who had been at the helm of the company since February 2005.
Dato' Nadzmi, 54, is no stranger to Proton and was in fact a member of the original HICOM team which conceived the National Car Project in 1982. After Proton started up, he was then seconded to Edaran Otomobil Nasional (EON) where he served in various positions (including Executive Director and CEO) until 1992 when he moved to Proton.
In November 1992, he was appointed as Deputy Managing Director of Proton during the transition period when Mitsubishi Motors’ was handing back management assistance after having been asked to help during the recessionary period of the late 1980s. The following year, Dato’ Nadzmi was appointed Managing Director, returning the top position to a Malaysian.
He remained as MD until 1996 and continued for a while as a board member. He was also engaged in other businesses after leaving Proton and is currently the executive chairman of Nadicorp Holdings Sdn Bhd.
