As the launch date for the Proton MPV nears (sometime during the first quarter of 2009), the final tests are being conducted in the 'real world' and inevitably, the MPV is going to be spotted on the roads now that they come out in the daytime as well (earlier, they would only leave the Proton factory late at night to avoid being seen).
Recently, a reader spotted one of the prototypes on the highway and managed to get his wife to take some shots which are pretty clear. Thanks to Mr and Mrs S for the contribution!
The shots don't show anything that you haven't seen on the spy pics on Paul Tan's website though the exhaust pipe hanging under the rear bumper is something unusual. It can't be a production item as it looks so crude so it is probably just a temporary fixture for some specific testing.
The side view shows that the MPV will have signal lights on the door mirrors and like all new models since the Gen2, the door handles are the grab type and not the older lifting type. The top of the shroud for the instrument panel looks familiar and it is possible that the dashboard will be something adapted from the Persona.
