Following the closure of the AMI assembly plant in June this year, local assembly of the Ford Ranger ceased and Sime Darby Auto Connexion Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sime Darby Motor Division that now manages the Ford, Land Rover and Alfa Romeo brands, now imports the model in completely built-up form (CBU) from the AAT plant in Thailand which is the regional production hub for the Ranger.
The latest version of the Ford Ranger TDCi, which is available at 26 Ford outlets nationwide, is priced at RM86,888 (on the road, without insurance and registration) in Peninsular Malaysia and RM90,388 in East Malaysia (on the road without insurance and registration).
It now comes with two side airbags in addition to the driver and front passenger airbags for better protection, a new 6-disc mp3-capable CD player and a leather wrapped steering wheel.
The Ranger TDCi continues to be powered by the 2.5-litre DuraTORQ Commonrail turbodiesel engine that produces 141bhp at 3500 rpm and 330 Nm of torque at 1800 rpm. The standard transmission is an automatic 5-speeder.
The pick-up also comes with sporty 16-inch alloy rims, fog lights, bedliner and sport bar. A remote keyless entry system and immobiliser are provided for the owner’s peace of mind.
