UMW Toyota Motor’s TRD Vios Project is nearing completion as the month end with the final installation of TRD accessories on four units of standard Toyota Vios 1.5J.
The cars are being given a unique and vibrant body colour at the Toyota Body & Paint Centre at the UMW Toyota Motor Service Centre in Sg Rasah, Shah Alam. This facility has state-of-the art equipment for the repair and painting of all Toyota vehicles and meets the strict requirements and high standards of Toyota Motor Corporation. All materials used are also subject to evaluation by TMC and approved for use.
The unique colours for TRD Vios cars are known as Rattle Snake Maroon, Wizard Blue, Raving Red and Arctic White. Using a special paint formula, the paint is mixed using an electronic mixer to obtain the unique colour.
Following the final 'transformation' of the Vios 1.5J to a unique and sporty TRD version, the cars will be on display at various events around the country from January 2009.
The TRD Vios project represents the initial phase of launching TRD accessories in Malaysia in 2009. Although TRD accessories are already available through some private importers, UMWT will be offering such accessories with full support and warranty in the same way as the Toyota vehicles it sells.
The TRD accessories offered to customers will be known as the TRD Sportivo range which has been specially tested in Southeast Asian conditions to ensure durability and reliability. Needless to say, every item in the TRD Sportivo range is made to the same superlative quality as every Toyota vehicle and Toyota Genuine Parts. A warranty is provided for manufacturing defects giving customers peace of mind. At present, the company is at the final stage of development and has finalized the TRD Sportivo accessories to be offered next year.
Toyota Racing Development (TRD) has been a part of Toyota’s motorsports division in Japan for some 50 years. It is a well known name among Toyota motorsports enthusiasts and has been supporting motorsports activities in many countries, especially the USA. Besides accessories that add a sporty touch to Toyota vehicles, TRD develops customized parts for enhancing the performance of Toyota vehicles. Being part of Toyota means that its engineers have detailed technical information on the cars and can also communicate directly with the engineers who developed the cars.
Besides its headquarters in Japan, TRD has bases in Germany and the USA where it provides support for official Toyota motorsports activities. While TRD does not enter its own racing team, it does provide state-of-the-art technology to the teams participating. From its involvement in such activities, it gains experience and knowledge which goes into developing its products. This knowledge is also shared with Toyota’s R&D division to help in improving the performance of production models.
