Visitors checking out the Neo at the 15th Indonesia International Motorshow recently
Indonesian price for the latest Waja is equivalent to about RM60,200.
PT Proton Edar Indonesia (PT-PEI), a subsidiary of Proton Bhd, has begun selling the Proton Neo and Waja after its launch at the 15th Indonesia International Motorshow recently. The two new models were officially unveiled by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and witnessed by members of the top management of Proton as well as the Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia. The event was also attended by Indonesian government officials, members of Proton Vendors Association, and Proton representatives from Indonesia and Malaysia.
With these two new additions joining the Gen2 and Savvy which were launched in March, Proton now has four models to offer to Indonesian buyers.
“Since Proton set foot in the passenger-car market in Indonesia, we have seen encouraging growth. We are delighted by this positive response and are now confident that with this more diversified offering of the Proton range, there will be even better results,” said Dato’ Mohammed Azlan Hashim, Chairman of Proton Bhd.
Priced from Rp175 million (about RM66,675), the 1.6-litre Neo (seems like the Satria prefix is not used there) is offered with both manual and automatic transmissions. With its 3-door sporty hatchback design, it is unique from other cars in the market and is expected to appeal to a select niche market.
The design and build of the latest Waja, introduced in Malaysia early this year, is expected to make it attractive to the corporate sector. It is also aimed at the ‘family’ market largely due to its competitive price which starts from Rp158 million (about RM60,200) and has the same 1.6-litre Campro engine as the Neo and Gen2.
Both cars have Lotus technology in their “Ride and Handling”, a distinct selling point of the latest Protons which also enhances driving safety.
Dato’ Mohammed Azlan said that the establishment of PT-PEI as a subsidiary is an example of Proton’s commitment to its customers In Indonesia and shows the desire to be directly involved in marketing activities. It is also considered as a tangible proof of Proton’s dedication to the growth of the Indonesian automotive industry.
“I am confident that we will be able to expand our presence considerably by the end of the year,” he added and said that Proton will strive to continually improve product quality and introduce more new models in Indonesia.
