Following the recent developments in the Proton-Volkswagen discussions, and the Malaysian Government’s announcement, Volkswagen AG is currently reviewing its business strategy for Malaysia.
"The natural expected outcome of this review would be the possible remodeling of the Volkswagen wholesale operations over the next few months", said VW Group Malaysia's Director of PR and Marketing Communicatons, Karen Cheng-Yoong, in a statement issued this evening. "To this effect, Volkswagen has approached the Malaysian Government for advice with regards to the future business operations of Volkswagen Group Malaysia. Volkswagen considers the Government’s counsel on this matter to be of utmost importance and value in ensuring the well-being of all Volkswagen local stakeholders, especially its customers."
She added: "Nevertheless, during this period of remodeling, Volkswagen assures its customers that there will be no disruption in its focus and continued efforts to ensure the high level of service that all Malaysian Volkswagen customers have come to expect. All authorised Volkswagen dealers can also expect to continue enjoying the full Volkswagen support via its subsidiary Volkswagen Group Malaysia."
The statement also said that Volkswagen continues to believe in the potential of Malaysia’s automotive industry as well as the country’s continuously growing importance and influence in the region.
