Defying age

The ever-present Ford Escape has been given yet another facelift by Sime Darby AutoConnexion, the official distributor for Ford Motor company in Malaysia. Gaining the kinetic design cues that have gained worldwide acclaim in most recent Ford vehicles, the updated Escape now looks as contemporary and sporty as it has even been.

For the first time however, it will be available in front-wheel drive form (2WD XLS); aimed at sporty-minded city-dwellers rather than adventure-seekers the traditional four-wheel drive version (4WD XLT) is modelled after. Both variants are powered by the familiar 2.3-litre, four-cylinder engine with 155bhp and 200Nm.

ABS with EBD is standard across the range, along with two front airbags, cruise control, automatic climate control, six-CD changer with six speakers, steering mounted audio controls and rear parking sensors. The 4WD XLT gains side airbags, a sunroof, 16-inch alloys, as well as leather seats and steering wheel over the cheaper 2WD XLS.

“The Ford Escape has long been a favorite amongst discerning Malaysian drivers due to its excellent comfort, ride, handling and built quality since its introduction in 2001. It retains its distinction as a true SUV capable of handling all road conditions,” said Sime Darby Motors Sdn Bhd Managing Director for Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore, Simon Rock.

The latest Ford Escape is fully imported from the Philippines and is available in Panther Black, Moondust Silver, Infra Red and Diamond White, with a 3-year free maintenance and 3-year warranty as standard. The 2WD XLS variant (RM 118,888 on the road) will be available in Ford showrooms from September onwards while the 4WD XLT (RM139,888) is now available for viewing nationwide.
