The all-new BMW 3 Series is a stylistic evolution of the previous model, as images of this lightly disguised pre-production car show.
Aside from the flourish of a distinctive step between the front wing and bonnet, BMW has decided that it will not take visual risks with this main cash-generating model.
Instead, the radically new aspects will be under the skin. Fuel efficiency will take top priority and it’s thought that this generation, codenamed F30, will provide the first sub-100g/km 3 Series, aided by BMW’s latest Efficient Dynamics technology.
The F30 is also expected to be fitted with BMW’s new turbocharged 1.5-litre, three-cylinder engine in petrol and diesel forms. A BMW source told Autocar that pre-launch trials with the engine have revealed that potential customers have responded positively to the engine’s performance and unusual soundtrack.
The F30 will be unveiled at the Frankfurt show in September and go on sale in major markets almost immediately afterwards. Malaysians will have to wait till next year to get a taste of it.
